Loving The Clutter In Boulder

Clutter is a consignment shop, yes, but no ordinary one. They cater to all types of people and EVERYTHING they sell is of high-quality. You'll find items for college students, for young adults just starting their family-life as well as the more mature hobbyist and collectors. They have anything from fun to elegant. It's quite a beautiful place... and the prices are reasonable! They're on 9th St. in downtown Boulder, just off of Pearl St. (west of the Pearl St. Mall).

Patty Ross is the owner of this beautiful establishment. You can read much about her and her shop at her blog Clutter My World. One of her favorite pastimes is to travel, and everywhere she travels... she shops! Growing up, she watched and accompanied her parents to numerous auctions and garage sales around the State of Michigan buying treasures that they could later sell at antique shows. It was only natural for her to open up a shop like Clutter.

The inspiration for the personality of Clutter came from a store she used to frequent in Atlanta, Ga. before moving to Boulder in 1996. "The store was so much fun to go into", she told us "because, not only was the merchandise wonderful, the owner and employees were friendly, energetic and fun". She appears to have studied them well! In addition to having a bubbly, friendly staff - they also have created a fun environment to shop in! Add this to the energy of the West End and you have a winning combination.

And, oh, the merchandise… they have such a wonderful array of items. You can get everything from avocado corelle dishes still in their original 1970’s box, to mixing bowls, Lucite lamps, travel posters, original art, Indian furniture and Ganesh statues, traditional furniture, leather and upholstered sofas, Persian rugs, designer dining room sets and everything in between!

For Patty Ross, the consignment business has been so much fun for her because of it being ever-changing . The stories behind the consignments are usually very interesting, and the staff keep themselves busy with constantly redecorating. "No sooner will we hang a shelf and decorate it than someone comes in, takes the shelf down to buy it and we start all over again", says Patty, "the furniture and home décor is constantly turning and it’s a new experience every time you come in the store".
